  3. Hi Mr. Fish,
Are you aware that your blog and identity are being used in part of a scam on Craig's List in New York City? An apartment is being listed & then someone responds as you (using the email dr.davidfish@hotmail.com), directing interested renters to this blog (which seems genuine.) I will post what is going on here. I am reporting this to Craig's List and I recommend you do, as well, as it is possible your identity has been stolen and is being used to do more than scam would-be renters in Brooklyn, NY. best wishes Hello,

Thanks for contacting me regarding my apartment situated at: 150 Remsen Street Brooklyn, NY 11201. I am the Landlord of the apartment.

I am currently not in the United States but currently moved to Cape Town, South Africa from Uganda. So, we are searching for someone who will be willing to take great care of the apartment as if it is his or hers'. If we come to a conclusion regarding renting the apartment to you, we would arrange on how to get the Keys and House Documents to you so that you can view the apartment before you sign any Document or Lease Agreement. After which you can move in immediately.

    Rent Fees:

Rent Per Month: $950 (Including Utilities)
    Security Deposit: $650 (Refundable)

  4. Hello,
I also contacted someone who is pretending to be you! I could smell a scam from far away...
Here is my second email conversation with "david fish"

First of all i want to thank you for your interest regarding our apartment and your speedy reply. After going through your email my Wife and I really appreciate your interest regarding renting our apartment and wanting to take great care of it as if it were yours. I have discussed with my Wife regarding renting the apartment to you and we have both agreed to rent our apartment to you after doing a little bit of background check. The rent fee is $950 while the security deposit fee is $650. I am as certain as can be that you would really love it there. But first you would need to see the apartment and conclude if you like it or not.

Therefore after going through your mail and your profile, which we also did a short background check online, we will want to believe that you are a responsible person and that you will be able to take great care of the property if given to you as if it belong to you and pay the rent at the right time because the main reason why we are renting out the apartment is because we are stationed in Africa and when we decide to return to the states, we will be moving into our home in Akron, Ohio.

Please once again, we are giving you this on trust and do not disappoint us and we promise you that you will love the apartment and the peaceful and safe environment. The Documents and Keys to the apartment are with me here and would be sent to you via FedEx next day delivery service. I want to rent the apartment out for either long or short period depending on you. I actually gave the apartment to an agent last year but I don’t like how he exploits the tenant and also ripped me off. Now I have decided to rent it out myself and deal directly with whoever is renting my apartment.

Please i want you to note that, i spent a lot of money on my property that i want to give you for rent, so i will solicit for your absolute maintenance of this house and want you to treat it as your own. It is not the money that's the main concern but want you to keep it tidy all the time so that i will be glad to see it neat when i come for a check up. The refundable security deposit of $650 would be needed because we will like to be certain that you are committed to renting the apartment before we send our Keys and Documents to you via FedEx but i will refund you the security deposit if you leave the apartment undamaged .

Please once again, we are giving you this on trust and do not disappoint us and we promise you that you will love the house and the peaceful serene environment. The Documents and Keys to the apartment are with me here and would be sent to you via FedEx. I would also like to know if you are ready to make the deposit payment. Do let me know the best time to call you so we could have a phone conversation.

Do get back to me ASAP so i could file you in as my new tenant. You can also call me on +27611476226.

Hope to hear from you asap.

  6. They are still using this mumber and they said they had an apartment in the Bronx available to move in asap on craiglist. They ask for money before you even see the apartment.

  7. They call themself Bob Peterson and use God as a means of to trust him so than you can send the money. That is a scam. My friend trusted that person and loss 1,650 dollars, she was desperate for the apartment.
